BASICS ER
Ratings - most energy efficient fenestration products available. ER Ratings are computer simulated comparisons, representing the thermal efficiency of the windows and their effect on a home's heating system. Stability - Fiberglass exhibits the least amount of expansion / contraction of any fenestration framing material. "Dimensional Stability" - Fiberglass parts hold their forms and shapes under severe mechanical and environmental stresses. Test Results - Exceptional test results for all product lines i.e. resistance to water leakage, air leakage, wind load and forced entry. GLASS? FIBERGLASS?
From glass marbles to fiber-optics - once you realize how many products are being replaced with Fiberglass composites, you recognize that this is the material of choice for a large category of products including fenestration products. The following is a short list of common Fiberglass products that you are familiar with: Common Fiberglass Products
a) Boats - perhaps the most common. Once completely dominated by wood and aluminum, the pleasure craft boating industry is now 95% dominated by fiberglass. Corrosion resistance, light weight, stability in temperature extremes and durability are some of the main features and benefits.
b) Recreational Skis (water / snow), helmets, pole vaulting equipment, golf clubs, golf carts, hockey sticks, hockey pads, fishing rods, playground equipment, motor home, travel trailers, snowmobiles, swimming pools and diving boards. Products in this category are the most recognizable.
c) Household Products Shower stalls, laundry tubs, sinks, bathroom tubs, hot tubs, vacuum cleaner housings, iron handles, microwave oven cook trays, television swivel stands, furniture, chairs and tables.
d) Automotive Fender Moldings, front ends, head lamp and tail lamp housings, hoods, exhausts components, grilles, instrument panels, insulated tanks, engine covers and body components.
e) High Performance Products Racing cars, rocket motor cases, aircraft nose cones - wing tips - wing fuel tanks, antenna components, launch tubes.
f) Chemical Processing Corrosion resistance is the key to wide spread application of Fiberglass Composites - chemical and fuel tanks - storage tanks and hoppers - fume collection hoods and duct systems.
g) Construction Windows and Doors, structural shapes, paneling, siding, skylights, curtain wall components, glazing panels, concrete pouring forms, ladders and painting poles. Items (a) through (g) are just some of the more common applications of fiberglass products. There are many more common and specialty areas where fiberglass products are chosen for their specific characteristics.

WHAT IS A FIBERGLASS COMPOSITE PRODUCT?
The choice of composition (amount of fiberglass, type of rovings, resin and inert fillers) usually depends upon the property requirements of the finished product i.e. mechanical, electrical, and chemical. The selected composition, the general shape considerations and production volume in turn indicate the manufacturing process to be employed. There are many types of systems used to make the end products i.e. Contact molding methods - hand lay-up, spray-up, Injection and Compression - molding, Cold molding methods, Filament winding and Continuous Pultrusion as well as others. While it is important to know about the other manufacturing processes, we will discuss only Continuous Pultrusion as it is the system used by Inline Fiberglass Ltd. to manufacture window and door framing materials. Continuous Pultrusion is the process used to produce continuous lengths of strong, Fiberglass composite products having a constant cross section. Products manufactured using this technology include window framing material , rods structural shapes, beams, channels, pipe, tubing etc. The manufacturing process works as follows: Continuous strands of Fiberglass rovings and fiberglass mats are impregnated with resin , then drawn through a steel die which sets the shape of the stock. A portion of the die is heated to initiate the cure. The end product is a Thermoset Fiberglass Composite. Very high strengths are possible due to high glass concentration and orientation of Fiberglass rovings and mats parallel and perpendicular to the length of the material being drawn through the die. Thermoset or Thermoplastic: Thermoset - Heat is generally used to cause a chemical reaction which sets the shape of the part permanently. Once the materials are cured they cannot be reformed: the process is irreversible. All of Inline's Products are thermoset. Thermoplastic - Heat is used to melt or soften a material during the forming operation. The shape is retained after the part is cooled below the softening point. The shape is not permanent since heating will soften the material and allow it to flow. The process is reversible. Products primarily made of plastics are thermoplastic. PVC is a thermoplastic material.

Fiberglass is a natural insulator because it is does not conduct heat and cold and it doesn?t expand or contract. Most window and door frame components have an interface of different materials: glass on wood, glass on aluminum or glass on vinyl. With fiberglass, the components are identical which means there is minimal expansion and contraction and if there is any, the components expand and contract as a unit.
